I got a library card today - the first I've had in YEARS. Honestly, I couldn't tell you the last time I had a library card...maybe college?
I usually just buy whatever books I want to read, but I decided to spring for a card because I need to get back on track with my family's book club and I didn't want to buy the last book (no offense mom!). I just have no idea what it's about and didn't want to drop money on this particular one.
So, I thought I'd take advantage of Laramie County's AWESOME library.
I've been to a few free events there, but never took the time to really look around.
First of all, it's huge. Secondly, it's got DVDs - like a super cheap Blockbuster - in there! And it's all high-techish. I checked out my book like I would groceries at the self-check register. Maybe these are things all libraries have nowadays, but I had no idea. (This all makes me sound like I haven't been in a library since card catalogs, which I have. And recently. I just haven't checked anything out.)
It has some fun events too, but I already knew that. This month, there is a free "dinner" and a movie each week with discussion. I'm going to try to go Thursday night.
All in all a good "investment."

I just got my Philadelphia library card. I have yet to take anything out. I really need to work on that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I want to get cards for my kids. I really don't know why I don't take them to the library more often. They both love to read. For awhile we were going to a children's story hour each week at the library... but it got weird. I was pretty much the only mom there. The rest were nannies. I felt like a black sheep. And the nannies all knew each other and their kids would go crazy... and it just wasn't a great experience for my children.
Cities...
Libraries become addictive. You'll kick yourself (using your cowgirl boots) for not getting a card sooner. :)
ReplyDeleteLibraries are great. It's sad that so many of them are closing, due to the economy. They offer so much. Kimberly, I don't blame you for not buying the book. I really didn't want to buy Eat, Love, Pray, either. I would rather get them from the library, because I honestly have enough books at home. I think you might enjoy this book. You'll probably be one of the regular readers to children at the library before long:)That's great that they were awarded as one of the top 10 libraries. That says a lot!
