Bountiful baskets

Have you heard of it?  Bountiful Baskets?

It's a grassroots food co-op made up of all volunteers where you contribute $15 a week and get a basket of fresh fruits and veggies.

A few friends have mentioned it and this week I finally tried it.

It's pretty darn amazing.  For $15 I got a HAUL!

The organization asks that people volunteer when they can unloading the delivery truck, putting food in baskets, breaking down boxes, etc.  Since yesterday was my first time I wanted to just observe, but I will volunteer in the future.

There were so many people there both helping and waiting for their basket!  That line wrapped around the gym.  There's only so many baskets available for each pick up site so you have to move quick to get your basket reserved online.  My friend Candice said her town's site will sell out in 10 minutes!

And take a look at what all we got!  Each week is a surprise.  I was certainly surprised by the amount you get!

Now, to figure out what to do with all the lettuce.  We'll be eating a lot of salads this week, which, I guess it the point, right?

  1. Wow, that's pretty great. They have a program here where you can get different sized packages with certain meats that people take advantage of. Looks like pretty fresh, food, too, Kimberly.
